HKAA is a supply chain and product development company based in southern -China and headquartered in Hong Kong, with a focus on supply chain consulting, purchasing services and custom product development. We utilise the extensive and dense supply networks existing in China’s Pearl River Delta, as well as industrial clusters in other core provinces and regions (Fujian, Jiangsu, Shantou, etc.). With decades of collective experience in product development, project, purchase and supplier management, we deliver projects on time and within budget, while minimising product and supply chain risk.

HKAA was founded by a small group of expat engineering and supply professionals and core Chinese technical staff with an already rich background in Chinese product sourcing and development. We’ve focused consistently on servicing Western SMEs, primarily in the fields of  electronics, textiles, and engineered components.

We generally request a short project briefing with any details, drawings or information available. We’ll usually follow-up with a quick call and talk through your project.

We do have standard hourly rates available for projects upon request, but this can vary on the complexity and type of project, the resources required, etc. Maybe a bit “squirrelly” but we’re flexible and open to customer input and needs.  

There’s a lot of variability. Simple sourcing projects can take less than 2 weeks to qualify a supplier for an “off the shelf” item, though price negotations and legal / quality issues may take longer. Product development usually runs from 3-9 months or more, depending on project complexity and process.

A few short years ago, the answer to that 95% of the time would have been “China.” Now, with rising costs and political complexity, that percentage has dropped a bit. Depending on the product category, there are strong alternatives to China in East & SE Asia and abroad. In general, though, for electronics or highly engineered or customized products, China is still the primary place to go.

Our primary operational and engineering office is located in Foshan, a large and sprawling metropolis outside of Guangzhou, in the south of China. We’re smack dab in the middle of the Pearl River Delta, one of the main manufacturing hubs for electronics, home appliances, furniture, and a thousand other products. We do maintain supply chains and contacts in other areas of China, as the production of certain products is highly regionalized.

Sourcing is part of what we do, as depending on the category and the product, many customers may go direct. Usually, where we shine is in handling project and product complexity. Many OEM / ODM factories fall down on communication, documentation, project management and other issues, which is when we help step in and resolve or prevent issues from occurring or reoccurring. A good rule of thumb is: stopping the problem at design is 10x cheaper than at piloting, 100x cheaper than at mass production, 1000x cheaper than at the warehouse, and 10,000 times cheaper than in the market.
